Added 29/01/2008 at 13:24
Universities and colleges in Manchester are bracing themselves for funding cuts of almost £3.5 million. It follows the Government's decision to scrap funding for students who take a second degree, which has angered cross-party MPs.
Those affected include mothers who want to retrain and return to work after a period at home looking after their children.
Others taking second degrees include people changing careers, who typically study part-time, or people who want to expand on their first degree, such as a schoolteacher learning new skills. More... More...

Save our Services

Since being elected, probably the biggest issue that Paul has had to deal with is the Campaign to Save Vital Services at Rochdale Infirmary. The Campaign has been a busy one - Health Bosses revealed that they received over 50,000 replies. These came in a variety of ways including petitions, forms being filled in, there was a number of protests and that Paul and the local party led. These were in Rochdale and London
The campaign continues and Paul is encouraging people not to give - The decision on A and E is currently the subject of a Judicial Review.
Please sign our ONLINE PETITION to ask the Secretary of State for Health Patricia Hewitt MP to review the decision.

Comment:
What about the removal of the bus service from the Deeplish and Milkstone area? Actually the bus service still exists! It just does not go through Deeplish and Milkstone anymore. So all the elderly who are entitled to free bus travel can't have that provision because the Ring and Ride (No... It's been renamed to `Community Transport`?) goes not honour a pentioner's free travel provision? With the bus services it's not aboput providing a public service. It's a necessary evil. The reason a bus service exists is to make a Profit. No more no less. It's just that a service must be provided.
